One of the most dreaded tasks every host or property manager comes across is the cleaning process. It takes up a lot of time, is labor-intensive, and is simply tiring to do as a whole. However, it’s necessary to do your Airbnb cleaning every time a guest leaves your rental to ensure your rental’s longevity and to keep it in order for your next guest.

Throughout our experience, we’ve found that having a cleaning team in place is the best move you can make to streamline the process. This is especially useful for hosts and property managers with a large portfolio. But, this brings the question, where can you find a good Airbnb cleaner? This is where Turno comes in.

Turno provides a platform where hosts and managers can connect directly with people in the cleaning business. This allows you to find professionals who can do the job for you. So, today, we’re taking a look at the Turno platform and determining whether you should use it for your short term rental business.

Best Turno Features and How Hosts Can Use Them for Their Airbnb

Throughout our experience using the platform, we’ve encountered a handful of Turno features that have stood out. These are the features that we believe will help hosts and property managers the most when it comes to their vacation rental cleaning needs. Here’s each of them and what they do.

Auto Scheduling: It does exactly as the name suggests, it automatically schedules your cleaning projects based on your booking calendar. This reduces the need for manual communication and scheduling, ensuring that your cleaners will always be informed about upcoming turnovers. We’ve found it especially useful as busy hosts who not only manage our respective short term rentals, but also be on top of our BNBCalc platform. It leaves nothing else to do aside from paying our cleaning team, which brings us to the next feature.

Automated Payments: Another time-saver for hosts and property managers is Turno’s automated payments. You can automatically pay cleaners once they mark a job as completed within the Turno app. This makes it more convenient to process payments, especially if you own multiple properties.

Cleaner Marketplace: This is Turno’s main selling point. They provide access to a vast network of vetted short-term rental cleaning professionals. Through the marketplace, hosts and property managers can source cleaners, compare bids, and even assign backup cleaners for last-minute coverage. It ensures you’ll always have a cleaning team in place, preparing your rental for the next guest.

Photo Checklists: Since most of your cleaning process can either be automated or managed through the Turno platform, you’ll rarely have to go your rental to perform checks. This is where Photo Checklists come in. It allows you to create and share checklists with cleaners, stating all of the necessary tasks that they need to do. Cleaners can then upload live photos for each task that you can track through the Turno app. It makes tracking cleaner progress and ensuring consistent quality a breeze.

Inventory Management: Finally, we have inventory management. Hosts can designate specific items they want checked during each turnover, ensuring you’ll never run out of items when you need them the most. It’s a simple yet helpful feature that triggers instant notifications when cleaners report a low stock of specific items. It’s mainly a proactive approach that helps avoid last-minute trips to restock essentials and ensures that guests always have access to the amenities they need for a comfortable stay.

Turno Pricing: How Much Does Turno Cost?

Does the Turno Airbnb cleaning process sound good to you? Well, it’s time we took a look at the potential costs involved when using the Turno platform. They offer a variety of plans with free, monthly, or annual payments.

  • 1 Property - Single property accounts are free, you can even use your own cleaners or ones from the Turno market. The plan already includes all of their features like marketplace access, Auto Scheduling, live customer support, inventory management, automatic payment, reporting, and access to the Turno mobile app.
  • 2 or more properties - You can still get free access to Turno even if you own 2 or more rentals. Their only condition is that you only use cleaners found within the Turno market. You still get access to all of the features on the Turno platform.
  • 2 or more properties with a separate cleaning team - Alternatively, you can invite your own cleaning team or your preferred cleaning business over to the Turno platform if that’s what you prefer. However, You’re required to pay $8 per month per rental or $72 per year per rental. The advantage of this plan is you’ll get all of the features on the platform and the Turno mobile app, along with a cleaning management tool for your cleaning team. The Turno marketplace is also available, in case you want to hire extra help.

Overall, we’ve found the Turno plans fair for everyone involved. Single properties can use Turno for free, making it an all-around great deal for those starting out their short term rental journey. Those with 2 or more properties can also get access for free if they exclusively use cleaners from the Turno market, otherwise, they’ll have to pay a small monthly fee per rental. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.

Turno User Experience

Our experience with Turno has been pretty great. We really liked how fast their sign-up process takes, only asking for a couple of important questions that’ll have you up and running in a few minutes tops. The same can be said for the Turno mobile app, which is cleanly separated into a dedicated host app and a cleaner app. It follows the same set of important questions, before allowing you to see your dashboard.

The dashboard itself is also pretty neat. It displays an overview of all of your projects, your properties, problems (if any), and your projects that may require some extra attention. They also organize everything into different sections, making it easy to keep track of the different functions that the Turno platform provides.

However, our overall experience hasn’t been pretty flawless. While the Turno mobile app makes managing your cleaning team pretty convenient, it doesn’t provide the same amount of functionality and general usefulness that the website does. In fact, some of the functions redirect to the website, instead of being able to manage them in the app.

Another minor drawback is that Turno doesn't allow hosts to browse available cleaners directly; instead, cleaners must apply to your job posting. Cleaners bid based on the property details you provide and you’ll get a chance to see their reviews, credentials, and their fees. This system may not always attract the best cleaners since it goes through an entire bidding process. However, all Turno cleaners go through a background check, so all of them are qualified.

Overall, we’d say that Turno is a pretty reliable and user-friendly platform. Their live customer support is great and responsive, and their rates are reasonable. Your experience might depend on where you’re located, though. For major cities, Turno will almost always have an extensive list of cleaners available, for others, it might be more niche. It’s just something to keep in mind.

Turno Reviews From Across the Web

Now, let’s take a minute to turn to verified reviews to paint a better picture of the general experience you can expect from Turno. Take note, that reviews on sites can consist of comments from a host, property manager, or an Airbnb cleaner. However, we’ve decided to only list ones from hosts/ managers for our purposes.

  • Looka left this review: “One of the reasons we love Turno so much is the EXCELLENT customer service you receive. They are always SO prompt with their responses, especially on the chat. Today, one of the members of our Turno team was having difficulty with the app, and the customer service rep, Mary, went above and beyond to help us resolve the issue quickly.”
  • Renaldo S. says this: “My overall experience with Turno is positive particularly with customer service and the cleaners have been pleasant! A particular customer service specialist named [sensitive content hidden] helped me out recently and really took the time to understand and attempt to resolve my issue. I hope to speak with her or other customer service reps like her in the future! The platform has a lot of restrictions on how cleaners should be contacted and worked with. I do understand a need for some restrictions, but the reliance on the platform causes some pause!”
  • Michael G. claims: “Very intuitive and easy to use. The agent, [sensitive content hidden] who assisted me and helped me with my concern is awesome, polite and very knowledgeable. 5 stars to both Turno and [sensitive content hidden]! Well, sometimes it lags but I think it's normal and it doesn't affect the great experience I always have when using Turno”

Overall, it seems that users are quite satisfied with Turno. Most high-star reviews praise their responsive and helpful customer support team, along with a user-friendly interface. On the other hand, the low-star reviews complain about the Turno app lagging, the limited number of cleaners within their area, and communication restrictions on the platform.

Turno got great scores all around, earning a solid 3.8/5 on TrustPilot, 4.6/5 on Capterra, and 4.6/5 on GetApp. We think the main takeaway from public reviews is that your experience can greatly vary, depending on your location due to the number of Airbnb cleaning teams available within your city.

Final Thoughts

As a whole, our experience with the Turno platform has been great and we do believe that it can make Airbnb cleaning faster and better. It helps streamline the process and connects you with qualified cleaners within your area. We can recommend it for hosts and property managers located in big cities like Miami, Atlanta, and New York. However, for those in smaller cities, we recommend using the free plans available on Turno first to gauge the number of cleaners in your area.

If you’re considering starting out your own Airbnb rental or just looking for a new addition to your portfolio, we suggest checking out our BNBCalc property analysis tool to give you an insight into properties on your radar. It can help you make data-driven decisions, based on what active rentals are already earning, allowing you to get an idea of not only revenue but also expenses, and paint a fuller picture of your potential investment.
